Step by Step Instructions – Android Users

(iOS Users, please click here or scroll down about halfway)

– Step 1 –
Gather Your Materials & Find an Appropriate Outlet

Materials Needed:

  • Gangbox (With Neutral, Line & Load Wires)
  • Cell Phone or Tablet
  • Wink HUB 1.0 or 2.0

Locate an area to install your switch within the recommended distance (calculated on Page 2-3 in your manual) from your HUB.

Walls, furniture, and other obstructions may affect the communication between the Plug-In Module and your Hub/Gateway, so please keep this in mind when selecting your location.

Follow the recommended wiring instructions located in Step 2.

**If you are having issues pairing your device, please ensure your switch is within range of your HUB. 95% of the pairing/including failures stem from this issue. Best practice is to start with Z-Wave products near your HUB and build your network out. The more Z-Wave devices, the more efficient your network.**

-Step 2-
Wiring Diagrams

Please follow the recommended wiring diagrams below. If your wiring diagram does not look like the below, please reach out and we will try our best to help (although we are not electricians).

Here are some Pro-Tips to follow:

  • Remember to turn off the power prior to installation and ensure all connections are made prior to turning the power back on
  • The Line wire is Hot. Please use a multimeter to find it.
  • Our smart switches will work with normal 3-Way Switches. You do not need a special Auxiliary Switch
  • Our switches require a Neutral wire. Please do not try wiring without one.
  • Please remember to Ground all connections
  • Remember to start the inclusion process prior to flipping the power back on
  • Use Wire-Strippers to cut 1″ for screw installation and 5/8″ for Terminal Installation

**If you are having issues pairing your device, please ensure your switch is within range of your HUB. 95% of the pairing/including failures stem from this issue. Best practice is to start with Z-Wave products near your HUB and build your network out. The more Z-Wave devices, the more efficient your network.**

-Step 3-
Adding (Including) to the Network & Completing the Setup Process

Please do not turn the power back on until you start the actual inclusion process — this switch has, “Auto-Inclusion” so if you switch the power on too early, it will not auto-include and you will have to do the backup method.

Now that your switch is installed, we’ll start the inclusion process.

Including Steps:

  • Open up your Wink app and click on the menu
  • Then click on, “Add to Wink”
  • Next, select, “Lighting” followed by, “Switches”
  • Finally, click, “Generic Z-Wave Binary Switch”
  • Then click, “Next” (where it says, “Refer to the product manual”)
  • On the, “Select HUB” screen, select your HUB of choice, followed by, “Next”
  • Keep clicking on next until you reach, “Connect Now” — THEN STOP!
  • Walk down to your circuit breaker and flip on the power (you will now have 30 seconds to press, “Connect Now” in your Wink app)
  • While next to the breaker, press, “Connect Now” and Wink will automatically start looking for devices (it will be flashing blue)
  • Wait for auto-inclusion to do its thing. It will automatically include/pair to your HUB
    • If successful, your device will flash twice and the Wink HUB will flash GREEN (NOTE: Auto-Inclusion will time out after 30 seconds)
    • If the switch does not flash within 30 seconds and your Wink HUB is still flashing blue, please use the alternate method of pairing which is pressing the top (UP) button 6x within 2 seconds
    • If your Wink HUB turns GREEN, the switch was successfully paired — if the HUB flashes RED, it was not successfully paired. In the case of RED, please start over and use the backup method of pairing (pressing UP 6x within 2 seconds)
  • You should now see that your device is detected (“Switch” or “Unknown” should appear)

You should see your new switch on the, “Lights & Power” screen.

Best practice is to start with Z-Wave products near your HUB and build your network out. The more Z-Wave devices, the more efficient your network.**

-Step 4-
Run a Z-Wave Refresh to Update Your Mesh Network With Your New Switch (OPTIONAL: But Recommended)

This step is highly recommended whenever a new Z-Wave device is added to your network. It tells your HUB to re-map the network which, ultimately, will make your network faster and more efficient.

Z-Wave Refresh Steps:

  • In the Wink app, click on the, “Menu” button
  • Then click, “Hubs”
  • Next click on the gear/settings icon (top right)
  • From the settings menu, click on the actual HUB you paired your device to
  • Scroll down and select, “Z-Wave Controls”
  • Then press, “Z-Wave Network Rediscovery”
  • Wait 20 minutes for your Wink HUB to re-map (discover) the network
    NOTE: Do not touch anything on your network during this time

Congratulations, you now have a smart switch!

-Device Removal-
Removing Your Smart Switch From Wink

Please follow the below directions to remove your smart switch from your Wink HUB.
(NOTE: this is the same process for Wink HUB’s 1.0 & 2.0)

Removal Steps:

  • From within the Wink App, click on the menu and then, “Lights & Power”
  • Then click on the three dots on the top right of the screen to bring up the, “Settings” menu
  • Click on the device you’d like to remove under the, “Lights” section
  • Scroll to the bottom and select, “Remove Light”
  • A pop-up will appear asking if you’re sure — click, “Remove”
  • Then continue to click next until it says, “Disconnect Now”
  • When you’re by your switch, press, “Disconnect Now”
  • Press the Top (UP) Button on your NZW30 six (6) times within 2 seconds
    • If successful, you will see a message saying that the device was successfully removed from Wink (and your Wink HUB will flash GREEN)
    • If unsuccessful, you will see a message saying that it’s taking too long and eventually your HUB will flash RED. Continue to try or force remove it (NOTE: If you force remove it, you will need to exclude the device when repairing/including it)

Your smart switch should now be removed from the Wink HUB.

-Step 4-

  • A pop-up will appear asking if you’re sure — click, “Remove”
  • Then continue to click next until it says, “Disconnect Now”
  • When you’re by your switch, press, “Disconnect Now”
  • Press the Top (UP) Button on your NZW30 six (6) times within 2 seconds
    • If successful, you will see a message saying that the device was successfully removed from Wink (and your Wink HUB will flash GREEN)
    • If unsuccessful, you will see a message saying that it’s taking too long and eventually your HUB will flash RED. Continue to try or force remove it (NOTE: If you force remove it, you will need to exclude the device when repairing/including it)

Your smart switch should now be removed from the Wink HUB.
