Step by Step Instructions – Android Users

(iOS Users, please click here or scroll down about halfway)

– Step 1 –
Gather Your Materials & Find an Appropriate Outlet

Materials Needed:

  • Grounded Outlet
  • Cell Phone or Tablet
  • SmartThings HUB 1.0 or 2.0

Locate an indoor outlet which is grounded and within the recommended distance (less than 30ft) from your Z-Wave Hub/Gateway.

Walls, furniture, and other obstructions may affect the communication between the Plug-In Module and your Hub/Gateway, so please keep this in mind when selecting your location.

**If you are having issues pairing your device, try pairing the device directly next to the HUB. You can move it to its final destination once paired/included. This will solve 95% of all problems you may have when pairing**

-Step 2-
Plug In Lamp(s)/Appliance(s)

Before plugging in your module, please plug in the device(s) you are looking to control.  In addition, make sure that both devices together do not equal more than 16 Amps. Each individual outlet can handle up to 10 Amps, but together, the device cannot go above 16 Amps.

Note: It is not recommended plugging in space (electric) heaters, or any other appliances that may present a hazardous condition due to unattended, unintentional, or automatic power control.

**If you are having issues pairing your device, try pairing the device directly next to the HUB. You can move it to its final destination once paired/included. This will solve 95% of all problems you may have when pairing**

-Step 3-
Plug In the Module & Exclude (Optional – But Highly Recommended)

You are now ready to plug in your module and start to sync to your SmartThings HUB.

Before we start the official syncing (including) process, we are going to go over how to exclude a device. This step is optional, but we like to do it with any new Z-Wave device we get/test, just to make sure. The excluding process is like a reset, and it’s helpful if you bought the device used, or if there is an issue with your HUB/Gateway.  Plus, it doesn’t hurt!

Excluding Steps:

  • Open up your SmartThings app
  • Click on the three lines in the top left of your app (menu)
  • Click on, “Hub is Online”
  • Click on, “Z-Wave Utilities”
  • Click on, “General Device Exclusion”
  • Push on the Middle Button on the front of your NZW37 3-5 times within 3 seconds
(IMPORTANT: Please make sure the LED light is turning on and off when you’re pressing the button — if it isn’t, please contact us as you have likely received a defective unit)
  • You should now see that your device is excluded

**If you are having issues excluding your device, try excluding the device directly next to the HUB. You can move it to its final destination once paired/included. This will solve 95% of all problems you may have when pairing**

-Step 4-
Adding (Including) to the Network & Completing the Setup Process

Once you’ve finished the Exclusion Process (or if you’ve skipped it) it’s time to include your Z-Wave device to your network.

Including Steps:

  • If you’ve excluded, press the back button, and then the “x” until you are back at the, “My Home” screen where you can see the, “Add a Thing” button (note: if you have a lot of devices, you will have to scroll down to the bottom)
  • Press, “Add a Thing” and it will automatically start looking for devices
  • Press the Middle Button on the front of your NZW37 3-5 times within 3 seconds to activate inclusion
(IMPORTANT: Please make sure the LED light is turning on and off when you’re pressing the button — if it isn’t, please contact us as you have likely received a defective unit)
  • You should now see that your device is detected
    • It will show, “Inovelli 2-Channel Smart Plug” or “Show Home 2-Channel Smart Plug” depending on which version you purchased
  • After your device was detected, press, “Save” (or if you’d like to rename your device, you can do that and then click, “Save”)
  • Once you click, “Save” a pop up will appear asking you to, “Confirm Paired Devices” — Click, “OK”

Testing Your Switch

  • First, at the, “My Home” screen, click on your switch (Inovelli 2-Channel Smart Plug)
  • You should see the following:
    • Main Switch = This controls both Channel 1 & Channel 2
    • Channel 1 = Right Outlet
    • Channel 2 = Left Outlet
  • When you press the, “Main Switch” (located at the top), it should turn on and off both Channels, giving you simultaneous control of both
  • You can control each channels individually by pressing, “Channel 1” and “Channel 2”

Congratulations, you now have a fully functional 2-Channel smart plug!

**If you are having issues pairing your device, try pairing the device directly next to the HUB. You can move it to its final destination once paired/included. This will solve 95% of all problems you may have when pairing**

-Step 5 (Optional)-
Renaming the Individual Outlets (ie: Channel 1 & Channel 2)

You may have noticed that there is no way to edit the two channels (individual outlets) within SmartThings. This is a limitation on SmartThings end and is unfortunate.

However, there is a workaround (with limitations) that can be used that’s helpful if you have Amazon Alexa or Google Home, so you’re not saying, “Alexa, turn on Family Room Switch Channel 1”.

NOTE: The limitations with this workaround are as follows:

  • You will need to use SmartThings IDE (don’t worry, step by step instructions are below)
  • When the names are changed, it will not show up in the actual SmartThings app on the screen pictured above
    • However, if you setup a Light Schedule or use a SmartApp, the new names will show up

Our recommendation is to do this step (especially if you have Amazon Alexa or Google Home) as it will help you keep track of the devices when you start to automate things.

Let’s get started.

Go to SmartThings IDE website:
If you’re not familiar with IDE, it’s actually a really great resource. This is the, “engine” under the hood of your HUB. You can do a lot of customizations that aren’t able to be done from within the app.

  • Go to: https://graph.api.smartthings.com
  • If you do not have an account, create one and use the same credentials as you have for your phone app
  • Once registered, click on, “My Locations”
  • Then click on the HUB your Inovelli switch is paired to
    • Confirm your HUB and then click, “My Devices”
  • Click on your Inovelli (or Show Home) smart plug
    • If you forgot what you named it, you can find it by looking under the, “Type” column — it should say, “Inovelli 2-Channel Smart Plug” or “Show Home 2-Channel Smart Plug” depending on the version you have
  • Scroll down to where it says, “Child Devices” and click on, “Channel 1”
  • At the top of the page you should see, “Switch Child Device Device Channel 1”
  • Click, “Edit” at the bottom of the page
  • Under where it says, “Label”, please rename your device to whatever you’d like and click, “Update”
  • Click on, “My Devices” and again, click on your Inovelli switch
  • Scroll down again to where it says, “Child Devices” and click on, “Channel 2”
  • At the top of the page you should see, “Switch Child Device Device Channel 2”
  • Click, “Edit” at the bottom of the page
  • Under where it says, “Label”, please rename your device to whatever you’d like and click, “Update”
  • Finally, click on, “My Devices” again and click on your Inovelli switch
  • Scroll down one last time to where it says, “Child Devices” and confirm that, “Channel 1” and “Channel 2” have been renamed.

That’s it! You’ve successfully renamed your device endpoints. Remember, this will not reflect in the app except if you’re creating an automation (ie: Smart Lighting SmartApp).

Amazon Alexa and Google Home users — remember to login to your phone app and refresh the devices and the new names should show up.

Amazon Alexa Directions for Refreshing:

  • Go to the menu and select, “Smart Home”
  • Click on, “Devices”
  • Scroll to the bottom and select, “Discover”

Google Home Directions for Refreshing:

  • Go to the menu and select, “Home Control”
  • Make sure you are on the, “Devices” tab and push the three dots on the top right of the screen and select, “Manage Accounts”
  • Under, “Linked Services” select SmartThings and press, “Check for new devices”
