Original Owner’s Manual

Just in case you tossed the manual or would just prefer to read it digitally.

Thank you for your purchase of the NZW37 Smart Plug. If you run into any problems along the way, please contact us. We’re here to help! In addition, to visit our troubleshooting page, click here.

Step by Step Instructions

(Please note: This device is only compatible with UI7 Firmware)

– Step 1 –
Gather Your Materials & Find an Appropriate Outlet

Materials Needed:

  • Grounded Outlet
  • PC or Mac
  • Vera HUB running UI7

Locate an indoor outlet which is grounded and within the recommended distance (less than 30ft) from your Z-Wave Hub/Gateway.

Walls, furniture, and other obstructions may affect the communication between the Plug-In Module and your Hub/Gateway, so please keep this in mind when selecting your location.

**If you are having issues pairing your device, try pairing the device directly next to the HUB. You can move it to its final destination once paired/included. This will solve 95% of all problems you may have when pairing**

-Step 2-
Plug In Lamp(s)/Appliance(s)

Before plugging in your module, please plug in the device(s) you are looking to control.  In addition, make sure that both devices together do not equal more than 16 Amps. Each individual outlet can handle up to 10 Amps, but together, the device cannot go above 16 Amps.

Note: It is not recommended plugging in space (electric) heaters, or any other appliances that may present a hazardous condition due to unattended, unintentional, or automatic power control.

**If you are having issues pairing your device, try pairing the device directly next to the HUB. You can move it to its final destination once paired/included. This will solve 95% of all problems you may have when pairing**

-Step 3-
Adding (Including) to the Network & Completing the Setup Process

NOTE: We skipped the exclusion process because we’ve found that Vera seems to pick up our device flawlessly. However, if you need to exclude the device, please visit this page for more information on how to exclude on Vera: http://docs5.mios.com/doc.php?language=1&manual=1&platform=3pro&page=include_mode.

Alright, let’s include your device!

Including Steps:

  • On the Main screen, click on the, “Devices” tab
  • Click, “Add Device”
  • Scroll down near the bottom and click, “Generic Z-Wave Device”
  • Under the, “Pair Your Device”, click “Next” until your HUB goes into inclusion mode
  • While your HUB is in inclusion mode (timer is counting down from 1 minute), press the Middle Button on the front of your NZW37 3-5 times within 3 seconds
(IMPORTANT: Please make sure the LED light is turning on and off when you’re pressing the button — if it isn’t, please hold the button down for 10 seconds and the LED should turn on. Once it turns on, press the button repeatedly until it toggles on and off every time you push the button. If it does not do this, you may have a defective unit and you should contact us immediately for a replacement)
  • If successful, you will see a new screen pop up and there will be a notification that says, “Device Detected”
  • Go ahead and name your device (you will want to label this something along the lines of, “Main Switch”)
  • Select a Room and hit, “Finish”
  • Wait for the devices to appear (Main Switch and Two “Endpoints” or Appliance Modules)

You will have individual control over the two, “Appliance Module’s” that show up. Unfortunately, the Main Switch is not set up to control the Appliance Modules simultaneously out of the box, but don’t worry, we will set it up properly below.

Naming Your Switches:

  • If you’d like to name your switches now, feel free to
  • Simply click on the arrow to the right of the, “On/Off” toggle switch and a menu will come up where you can rename the switch

PLEASE READ IF ONLY ONE SWITCH IS PICKED UP DURING PAIRING PROCESS:

If only one switch is picked up during the pairing process, make sure you are on the latest firmware (UI7). UI5 does not support multi-channel devices. If you are on UI7 and do not see three switches, try the pairing process again but move closer to your HUB.

**If you are having issues pairing your device, try pairing the device directly next to the HUB. You can move it to its final destination once paired/included. This will solve 95% of all problems you may have when pairing**

-Step 4-
Making the 3rd (Main) Switch a, “Master” Switch to Control Lights Simultaneously

As referenced in Step 3, you may have noticed that when you synced your NZW37, it created three separate switches. This is normal. However, the current software setup has the main switch only controlling the right outlet (if you’re facing the front of the outlet).

To turn this main switch into a switch that can control both Appliance Modules, here’s what you need to do (we’ll be using a Virtual Switch App).

Download and Configure the, “Virtual ON/OFF Switches” App

  • On the main menu, click on the, “Apps” and then, “Install Apps” tab
  • Type in, “Virtual Switch” and click, “Details” on the app called, “Virtual ON/OFF Switches”
  • Click, “Install” and, “Ok” on the “Confirmation required” popup
  • Wait for the app to install and configure
  • Once configured, click on, “My apps” and then, “Details”
  • The app will have already created a Virtual Switch which can be found right above the, “Create Another” button (see, “# 30 VirtualSwitch” in the video)
  • Click on the Virtual Switch that was created to rename it and assign a room — click, “Save Changes” to complete

Set Up Two (2) Scenes to Tell the Master Switch to Turn the Application Modules On & Off

  • Click on the, “Scenes” tab
  • Click, “Add Scene”
  • Under, “Step 1: Select a Trigger” make sure, “Device” is highlighted green and click on, “Select a device…”
  • Click on the Virtual Switch that was just created
  • Click on, “A device is turned on or off”
  • Next to, “Which mode” select, “Whenever the Virtual Switch is turned on” and click, “Validate”
  • Add another trigger — make sure, “Device” is highlighted green and click on, “Select a device…” again
  • This time select your, “Main” switch (not the Virtual One, but the, “Main” switch that was discovered by your HUB)
  • Again, click on, “A device is turned on or off” and next to, “Which mode” select, “Whenever the Main Switch is turned on” and click, “Validate”
  • Click on, “Next Step”
  • Then under, “Step 2: Device Actions” click, “Select Devices”
  • Select both Appliance Modules and click, “Next”
  • Make sure both Appliance Modules are switched to, “On” and click, “Validate”
  • Under, “Step 3: Finish the Scene”, select a Room and then under, “Name Your Scene” name it, “Main Switch On” or whatever you’d like with the word, “On” afterwards so you can remember
  • Click, Finish

Now, repeat the above steps to add an, “Off” scene. When you get to this step, “Make sure both Appliance Modules are switched to, “On” and click, “Validate”” just make sure to turn the switch to, “Off”.

Now, after you finish both scenes, go ahead and go back to the, “Devices” tab and test it out. Click on your, “Main” switch to turn it off and immediately your Appliance Switches will both turn off.

Congratulations, you now have the ability to control two switches individually as well as simultaneously!

**If you are having issues pairing your device, try pairing the device directly next to the HUB. You can move it to its final destination once paired/included. This will solve 95% of all problems you may have when pairing**
