NZW37 Quick Setup for Wink
(Auto-Inclusion)

Z-Wave Plug - Zwave Plus with Scene Control (NZW36 - Inovelli)

Thank you for your purchase of the NZW37 (Auto-Inclusion Enabled) Smart Plug. If you run into any problems along the way, please contact us. We’re here to help!

Step by Step Instructions – Android

(iOS Users, please click here or scroll down about halfway)

– Step 1 –
Gather Your Materials

Materials Needed:

  • Grounded Outlet
  • Cell Phone or Tablet
  • Wink HUB 1.0 or 2.0

Next, we’ll locate an indoor outlet which is grounded and within the recommended distance from your Z-Wave Hub/Gateway.

When you’re ready to select your plug’s location, please move onto, “Step 2”.

Walls, furniture, and other obstructions may affect the communication between the Plug-In Module and your Hub/Gateway, so please keep this in mind when selecting your location.

**If you are having issues pairing your device, please make sure you are within range above. If you are confident you are, please click on the, “Exclusion / Device Removal” tab below to exclude your device first**

-Step 2-
Select Your Location

Please use the below Z-Wave Worksheet to determine whether or not your location is suitable for your Z-Wave device.

Here’s how to use the Z-Wave Worksheet:

  • Go to where you want your switch to be located (or where it’s already located) and look straight towards your HUB (or nearest Z-Wave repeater)
  • Count how many walls, furniture, or other obstructions are in the way and write the down
  • Then use the chart and figures below to figure out if the switch should be within range

Z-Wave Worksheet (from your instructions)
Please use the below to calculate whether or not your switch is within range.
(NOTE: you can ignore the, “Page 2” below — this picture is taken from our instruction manual):

A Note on Max Amperage:
Make sure that both devices together do not equal more than 16 Amps. Both Z-Wave smart outlets can handle 10 Amps on their own, but together, cannot go over 16A — So, if you have something that’s 10 Amps on side #1, you can only use something that’s 6 Amps on side #2.

Note: It is not recommended plugging in space (electric) heaters, or any other appliances that may present a hazardous condition due to unattended, unintentional, or automatic power control.

**If you are having issues pairing your device, please make sure you are within range above. If you are confident you are, please click on the, “Exclusion / Device Removal” tab below to exclude your device first**

-Step 3-
Adding (Including) to the Network & Completing the Setup Process

Alright, let’s include your Z-Wave device to your network!

Please do not plug in your device until you start the actual inclusion process — this plug has, “Auto-Inclusion” so if you plug it in too early, it will not auto-include.

Including Steps:

  • Click on the Menu and then, “Hubs”
  • On the HUBS screen, click, “Add a Product” underneath the picture of the HUB
  • Click on, “Lighting”
  • Scroll down to the very bottom and press, “Switches”
  • Then click, “Generic Z-Wave Binary Switch”
  • Press, “Next” where it says to, “Refer to the product manual…” since you will not need it if you are following these directions!
  • On the, “Select HUB” screen, select your HUB of choice (if you have multiple) and click, “Next”
  • Click, “Next” again
  • Click, “Connect Now” and your HUB will start flashing
  • Plug in your device and let it find the signal from the HUB.
    • If successful, your Inovelli device will flash WHITE twice (NOTE: Auto-Inclusion will time out after 30 seconds)
    • If your Inovelli device does not flash WHITE within 30 seconds, please use the alternate method of pairing which is pressing the middle button 6x within 1 second.
  • If successful, your HUB will flash GREEN and your phone will say, “Success”

Congratulations, you now have a remote controlled smart plug!

IMPORTANT: It is important to note what color the HUB turns when flashing. Sometimes Wink will throw an error on the screen that says, “This is taking longer than expected”.  If your HUB turns GREEN and you still get this error, just close out of your Wink App and re-open and the switch should be there (give it a few seconds).

STILL CAN’T GET IT TO PAIR? You may need to exclude the device first. While this is rare, sometimes it happens. Please click see the, “Exclusion / Device Removal” section below. Once that’s completed, please return here.

Naming Your Switches:

  • When pairing (including) is successful, you will be prompted to name three (3) separate switches
  • The first switch (top) is the “Main” switch
  • The second switch will be your left outlet (if looking directly at the module)
  • The third switch will be your right outlet (if looking directly at the module)

Remember what you name your switches since you will be using these names below when setting up the “Main” switch to control both the second and third switch simultaneously via Robots.

PLEASE READ IF ONLY ONE SWITCH IS PICKED UP DURING PAIRING PROCESS:

If, when your phone says, “Success” it only lists one (1) switch, please name it, “Main” for now. Sometimes Wink does not show that it picked up all three switches. Force close the app (ie: press the square button on the bottom of your phone to bring up your running apps, and swipe Wink closed)

Now, re-open the Wink app, wait a few seconds for it to load and your other switches should show up.

**If you are having issues pairing your device, try pairing the device directly next to the HUB. You can move it to its final destination once paired/included. This will solve 95% of all problems you may have when pairing**

-Step 4-
Making the 3rd (Main) Switch a, “Master” Switch to Control Lights Simultaneously

NOTE: Wink has recently updated their firmware and these instructions may no longer work. We are working with their support team to fix this, but cannot give a timeline (we sent a care package 12/07/17, which will hopefully help speed things up). We apologize for the inconvenience. We recommend putting the Left and Right Channels in a Group to control them simultaneously.

You may have noticed that when you synced your NZW37, it created three separate switches. This is normal. However, the current software setup has the main switch (not the Switch Endpoints) only controlling the right outlet (if you’re facing the front of the outlet).

To turn this main switch into a switch that can control both Switch Endpoints, here’s what you need to do (we’ll be creating two robots).

Robot 1  |  Turn Switches On

  • On the main menu, click on the, “Robot” picture at the very top
  • Scroll to the bottom and click, “New Robot”
  • Edit the name to whatever you prefer (we suggest: Inovelli Master Switch On)
  • Under, “If This Robot Detects”, click on, “Something”
  • Scroll down to the, “Devices” section and find your Main Switch from Step 4 (whatever you called it) and click on it.
  • Select, “Comes On” and click, “Save”
  • Leave it as, “Anytime”
  • Click on, “Make This Happen” under the, “Then” section
  • Scroll down the list and find your two individual switches and select the first one
  • Move the indicator to the, “on” position if it’s not there already and click, “Save”
  • Click on, “Make Something Else Happen” and find your second switch
  • Move the indicator to the, “on” position if it’s not there already and click, “Save”
  • Click, “Done” on the top right of the screen

Robot 2  |  Turn Switches Off

  • On the main menu, click on the, “Robot” picture at the very top
  • Scroll to the bottom and click, “New Robot”
  • Edit the name to whatever you prefer (we suggest: Inovelli Master Switch Off)
  • Under, “If This Robot Detects”, click on, “Something”
  • Scroll down to the, “Devices” section and find your Main Switch from Step 4 (whatever you called it) and click on it.
  • Select, “Turns Off” and click, “Save”
  • Leave it as, “Anytime”
  • Click on, “Make This Happen” under the, “Then” section
  • Scroll down the list and find your two individual switches and select the first one
  • Move the indicator to the, “off” position if it’s not there already and click, “Save”
  • Click on, “Make Something Else Happen” and find your second switch
  • Move the indicator to the, “off” position if it’s not there already and click, “Save”
  • Click, “Done” on the top right of the screen

Congratulations, you now have the ability to control two switches individually as well as simultaneously!

**If you are having issues pairing your device, try pairing the device directly next to the HUB. You can move it to its final destination once paired/included. This will solve 95% of all problems you may have when pairing**

-Step 5-
Run a Z-Wave Refresh to Update Your Mesh Network With Your New Plug (OPTIONAL: But Recommended)

This step is highly recommended whenever a new Z-Wave device is added to your network. It tells your HUB to re-map the network which, ultimately, will make your network faster and more efficient.

Z-Wave Refresh Steps:

  • In the Wink app, click on the, “Menu” button
  • Next, click on, “Hubs”
  • Then click on the three dots at the top right of the screen (to access the Hub’s settings)
  • Then click on the Hub you paired your device to
  • Scroll down and click, “Z-Wave Controls”
  • Next click, “Z-Wave Network Rediscovery” (you should see a, “Command Successfully Sent” popup at the bottom)
  • Wait 5-10 minutes for your Wink HUB to re-map (discover) the network
NOTE: Do not touch anything on your network during this time

Congratulations, you now have a smart plug!

-Device Exclusion / Removal-
Excluding or Removing Your Smart Plug From Wink
