Step by Step Instructions

– Step 1 –
Gather Your Materials & Find an Appropriate Outlet

Materials Needed:

  • Grounded Outlet
  • Cell Phone or Tablet
  • Z-Wave Compatible HUB or Gateway

Locate an indoor outlet which is grounded and within the recommended distance (less than 30ft) from your Z-Wave Hub/Gateway.

Walls, furniture, and other obstructions may affect the communication between the Plug-In Module and your Hub/Gateway, so please keep this in mind when selecting your location.

**If you are having issues pairing your device, try pairing the device directly next to the HUB. You can move it to its final destination once paired/included. This will solve 95% of all problems you may have when pairing**

-Step 2-
Plug In Your Lamp

Before plugging in your module, please plug in the lamp you are looking to control. In addition, make sure that the bulbs wattage is below 500 Watts.

For best performance, use a CFL or Incandescent bulbs that are dimmable. If you’d like to use an LED bulb, please note that not all bulbs work properly with our device (as well as most dimmable switches and plugs in the market) and you may experience flickering or the bulb may not fully shut off.

Because we are personal advocates of LED bulbs, we’ve tested multiple bulbs and brands and have put together a list of bulbs that are compatible and work well with our module.

** Please click here or scroll all the way to the bottom for the complete list we’ve tested. If you have a bulb that works that you’ve tested yourself, it would be great if you could share! **

Note: Please only use dimmable bulbs with this module. This is not an appliance module, so plugging in an appliance or something that is not dimmable may cause injury.

**If you are having issues pairing your device, try pairing the device directly next to the HUB. You can move it to its final destination once paired/included. This will solve 95% of all problems you may have when pairing**

-Step 3-
Plug In the Module & Exclude (Optional – But Highly Recommended)

You are now ready to plug in your module and start to sync to your HUB or Gateway.

Before we start the official syncing (including) process, we are going to go over how to exclude a device. This step is optional, but we like to do it with any new Z-Wave device we get/test, just to make sure. The excluding process is like a reset, and it’s helpful if you bought the device used, or if there is an issue with your HUB/Gateway.  Plus, it doesn’t hurt!

Excluding Steps:

  • Put your HUB/Gateway in, “Exclusion Mode” (make sure it’s a Z-Wave Exclusion)
  • Push on the Middle Button on the front of your NZW39 3-5 times within 3 seconds
  • (IMPORTANT: Please make sure the LED light is turning on and off when you’re pressing the button — if it isn’t, please contact us as you have likely received a defective unit)
  • You should now see that your device is excluded

**If you are having issues pairing your device, try pairing the device directly next to the HUB. You can move it to its final destination once paired/included. This will solve 95% of all problems you may have when pairing**

-Step 4-
Adding (Including) to the Network & Completing the Setup Process

Once you’ve finished the Exclusion Process (or if you’ve skipped it) it’s time to include your Z-Wave device to your network.

Including Steps:

  • Exit out of your, “Exclusion” mode and start the, “Inclusion” mode (pairing to the actual HUB/Gateway)
  • Once the, “Inclusion” process has started on the HUB/Gateway, press the Middle Button on the front of your NZW39 3-5 times within 3 seconds to activate inclusion (on the plug)
(IMPORTANT: Please make sure the LED light is turning on and off when you’re pressing the button — if it isn’t, please contact us as you have likely received a defective unit)
  • You should now see that your device is detected

Now, you’ve successfully paired your device! Enjoy turning on and off your device with your phone, schedules, robots, or whatever you’d like to use. As always, we’re here to help. If you have any questions about setting up schedules or simply home automation in general, we’d love to answer them!

**If you are having issues pairing your device, try pairing the device directly next to the HUB. You can move it to its final destination once paired/included. This will solve 95% of all problems you may have when pairing**

-Device Removal-
Removing Your Smart Plug From Your HUB/Gateway

Please follow the below directions to remove your smart plug from your HUB/Gateway.

Removal Steps:

  • Follow the procedure to start the removal process on your HUB/Gateway
  • Once started and your HUB/Gateway is ready, press the Middle Button on the front of your NZW39 3-5 times within 3 seconds

Your smart plug should now be removed from your HUB/Gateway. If you want to re-pair/include the plug again, you’ll want to Exclude (Step 3) it again.

**If you are having issues removing your device, try removing the device directly next to the HUB. This will solve 95% of all problems you may have when removing**
