Step by Step Instructions

– Step 1 –
Gather Your Materials & Find an Appropriate Outlet

Materials Needed:

  • Grounded Outlet
  • PC or Mac

Locate an outdoor outlet which is grounded and within the recommended distance (less than 30ft) from your Z-Wave Hub/Gateway or nearest Z-Wave Repeater.

Walls, furniture, and other obstructions may affect the communication between the Plug-In Module and your Hub/Gateway, so please keep this in mind when selecting your location.

**If you are having issues pairing your device, try pairing the device directly next to the HUB. You can move it to its final destination once paired/included. This will solve 95% of all problems you may have when pairing**

-Step 2-
Preparing Your Module For Installation (IMPORTANT)

This module is equipped with, “Auto-Inclusion”. What that means is that as soon as it’s plugged in for the first time, it will start the auto-inclusion process which tells your HUB (ie: SmartThings) it’s ready to be included into the network. Unfortunately, this only lasts 30 seconds before it times out and you’ll have to use the backup method. So, leave the module unplugged until you press, “Pair Your Device” and Vera goes into pairing mode.

In addition, make sure that both devices together do not equal more than 15 Amps. The, “Always-On” outlet (non-smart) can handle 15 Amps, while the Z-Wave smart outlet can handle 15 Amps — So, if you have something that’s 10 Amps in the, “Always-On” outlet, you can only use something that’s 5 Amps in the smart outlet.

Note: It is not recommended plugging in space (electric) heaters, or any other appliances that may present a hazardous condition due to unattended, unintentional, or automatic power control.

**If you are having issues pairing your device, try pairing the device directly next to the HUB. You can move it to its final destination once paired/included. This will solve 95% of all problems you may have when pairing**

-Step 3-
Adding (Including) to the Network & Completing the Setup Process

Alright, let’s include your Z-Wave device to your network!

Please do not plug in your device until you start the actual inclusion process — this plug has, “Auto-Inclusion” so if you plug it in too early, it will not auto-include.

Including Steps:

  • On the Main screen, click on the, “Devices” tab
  • Click, “Add Device”
  • Scroll down near the bottom and click, “Generic Z-Wave Device”
  • Under the, “Pair Your Device”, click “Next” until your HUB goes into inclusion mode
  • Once your Vera is in inclusion mode, plug in your device and let it find the signal from the HUB.
    • If successful, your device will flash twice (NOTE: Auto-Inclusion will time out after 30 seconds)
    • If it does not flash within 30 seconds, please use the alternate method of pairing which is pressing the middle button 6x within 2 seconds.
  • After it flashes twice (to signal a successful inclusion), you will see a new screen pop up and there will be a notification that says, “Device Detected”
  • Go ahead and name your device
  • Select a Room and hit, “Finish”
  • Wait for the device to appear

Check to make sure your device turns on and off and if so, congratulations, you now have remote control over your lights!

**If you are having issues pairing your device, try pairing the device directly next to the HUB. You can move it to its final destination once paired/included. This will solve 95% of all problems you may have when pairing**
