Setting Light Schedules

SmartThings, Vera, Smart Plug, Smart Switch, Z-Wave Light (RGBW), Z-Wave Light (Standard), Android

Learn how to set schedules for your lights! Schedules can be used for many things (usage ideas in the “Usage Ideas” section) and in this tutorial, we’ll show you a basic way to have your lights turn on and off automatically.

Usage Ideas

  • Have select lights turn on at 7:00am when you wake up for work and off when you leave at 7:45am
  • Outside lights turn on at sunset and off at sunrise (or a select time)
  • Randomly turn on and off lights at night while away on vacation to deter burglars
  • Turn off all lights at a given time at night to save energy

What You'll Need

Here’s what you’ll need before setting this up:

  • Wink HUB (V1 or V2)
  • Android phone running the Wink Mobile App
  • Either a smart light, smart plug with a lamp plugged in, or a smart in-wall switch

In this example, we used the following:

  • Inovelli 2-Channel Smart Plug with two lamps attached
  • Inovelli Z-Wave On/Off Switch (not released yet — coming very soon!)

NOTE: We’ve also set this up in the past to work with GE’s Z-Wave switches, but this will work with any smart light, smart plug, or smart in-wall switch you have connected to Wink.
